Bad news: ABC7, moving back to 30 KW VHF, was still not available when I

The ABC O&O stations in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia that many with antennas are not receiving is because they are both VHF!

WJLA, CH 7 Washington and WPVI CH 6 Philadelphia are both stations that ?opted? to keep their original RF channels for digital.

Most stations in the country are broadcasting digitally on UHF channels, but these two are examples of what can happen after giving back the UHF 'parking' channel loaned to them during the transition.

For a consumer, buying and installing a UHF outdoor antenna is not an impossible task because the antenna is relatively small and manageable.

Not so for a VHF antenna, especially a low band type. My VHF antenna [which does NOT pull in WPVI] is over 8' X 8' and is mounted 25 feet above ground level.

The calculations that broadcasters relied on to accurately tell them how much digital power they they would need to replicate their analog coverage may be the problem.

We will all have to wait for the dust to settle to see if there is a
consensus that this is the problem and allow an increase power for affected broadcasters.

In the meantime I'm watching the picture perfect ABC Network from
Baltimore's WMAR CH 2 but missing out on local news and weather
information from WPVI.

How ironic!
