That's silly, Bob. When I was doing the A/B tests, I wasn't trying to
convince myself that 480p is all you need. I was initially comparing
480p and S-video from this SD-only device. And the difference was hard
to discern. Even if I might have wished it were no so.

On the other hand, the difference between either of those outputs from
the Philips, and 1080i HDTV directly to the LG, was drop-dead obvious.
Certainly from up close, and even when sitting 10 feet away from the 42"
screen.

What should be suspect is vague opinions from those with axes to grind.
This comparison was not between the best possible 480p and 1080i, most
likely, but rather from a 480p derived out of a SD device, and 1080i.
You'd have to be visually challenged to believe that 480i and 1080i are
no different.
