Philips makes it very clear in the manual that this DVDR/PVR is a SD
output unit only. Which is why I was not terribly surprised when I found
little difference in quality between the 480p component output and the
S-video output, at least when viewing OTA broadcasts. I did not make the
comarison when viewing DVDs, so that could be much different for all I
know.

And no, no way does the 480p output even approach the quality of 1080i,
when viewing OTA broadcasts.
