What is "more than adequate" for you isn't necessarily "more than adequate"
for me.

If someone wants to "rent" me a movie at 640x360, they would have to pay me
by the minute.

You still don't get it.

You rank DVDs above HDTV broadcasts and apparently like the quality on your 20" or smaller displays. But DVD is limited in vertical resolution to just a bit more than 240 lines because this content may be viewed on interlaced displays.

A 640 x 360 encoding from a progressive source (e.g. 24P that has been resampled from an HD film-to-tape transfer) has more vertical detail than a DVD, and nearly the same level of horizontal detail (640 versus 704/720).

I don;t make this stuff up John. It is reality. The same reality that has made it possible for a number of reviewers of iTunes movie downloads to report that the quality is equal to or better than an SD-DVD.
