[opendtv] Re: Spectrum Use for Broadcasting

No, I didn't miss anything. I watch analog tv, I watch DVDs, and I watch
HDTV broadcasts. I rank them in that order, and I don't use a display any
bigger than 20" to compare them. But then, I watch at a very close
distance.

What is "more than adequate" for you isn't necessarily "more than adequate"
for me.

If someone wants to "rent" me a movie at 640x360, they would have to pay me
by the minute.

Did I miss the news on new optic nerves in the side of the neck so that one
can "watch" a projection TV/phone while using it as a phone?

Wow impressive! Once again John demonstrates his lack of
understanding of the issue of resolution versus screen size, and the
positive benefits of oversampling relative to emission formats.

Apple's new iTune movie rental service uses 640 x 360 resolution.
This is essentially the equal to SD-DVD, which is dumbed down by the
need to limit vertical resolution for INTERLACED displays.

Once again John:

480P is more than adequate for display up to about 40 inch diagonal;

720P is more than adequate for displays up to about 70 inch diagonal,
and can deliver better quality in a bit-rate constrained channel than
1080P.

People MAY be buying bigger TVs for their family rooms, but there is
much greater growth in the number of small displays that can be used
to view video.

Craig
