I suspect that the argument is that his war came after Vietnam. John Kerry
was a favorite of New Times magazine. New Times magazine was a favorite of
mine: great cover stories, including "The Malling of America", and the
legendary last issue: "The Age of Decadence" in 1978.

I even read excerpts of the "New Soldier" book that is now called "extremely
rare."

Much of the concern about who will win seems overblown. I think back to the
fall of 1994, when, the day after Newt Gingrich's "Contract for America"
prevailed against Clinton's plans, a gay guy I knew announced plans to leave
the country (which he did) because of how bad he perceived Newt Gingrich
would be for HIV+ folk like him. (He was symptomatic; his blood was in
great demand for research.)

None of my explanations of the balance of powers worked. I haven't heard
from him since, and I've looked more than a few times.

Not to try to inject US Presidential Politics into this list (oops, too
late), but how is 4 months in country a "LONG WAR"?
