UPDATE 1-Sharp president says avoids LCD TV buildup - Jul 14, 2004 05:25 AM (Reuters) (Adds comments, background) By Daisuke Wakabayashi TOKYO, July 14 (Reuters) - Sharp Corp (TOKYO:6753) said on Wednesday there are signs of an inventory buildup for LCD televisions in the industry but that it has managed to avoid it. Sharp President Katsuhiko Machida said inventories of LCD monitors equipped with TV tuners were mounting. Major manufacturers of such models include Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) and Gateway (NYSE:GTW). "Sharp has managed to avoid that with higher-end models, but it is true that the industry worldwide is starting to see a buildup," Machida told reporters in Tokyo.
