Are you joking? What happens to cable companies when they tried that? What happens to a local broadcaster when he stops carrying the content of a major network is so obvious. His revenues go down the toilet. And the network finds another willing distributor. It's all about content. People don't much care what medium they use to receive the content. The clout the local broadcasters have is the content and the national cap restrictions. By the way, this could change -- if local broadcasters started developing a lot of their own content to compete with the major networks. If this content was good enough, guess what, other broadcasters would want it too. And you get another major network.
