Hi, I wrote: >> image retention. John Golitsis wrote: > Everybody had thought it impossible on an LCD-based display Well... not everybody... It is very possible. Even if 30 Hz polarity inversion is applied then it can still beat with a residu of 30 Hz line flicker from an imperfect de-interlacer and cause a DC voltage component on the cell. This then causes some image retention, which manifests as a 30 Hz flickering after-image, and only goes away after a long time. Some LCDs are much more sensitive to this than others, so be careful when supplying your own (cheap) de-interlacer... (PC !) It is of course not "burn-in" as we know it, i.e. phosphor wear. It is a change of physical properties of the LC cell by ion transport. But it can be just as annoying, and nobody knows for sure how long it takes to fade away. One LCD thermometer in my home is more or less destroyed because I left it running for too long on an almost empty battery. That low battery warning was apparently not for nothing !
