I saw a snippet on Philips offering a 21:9 screen for the movie buffs.
What to do with 16:9 content?
In a similar note, I watched parts of "Batman: The Dark Knight" in our new
auditorium on a 16:9 Stewart screen, using a Christie7K projector and JBL
THX processor and speakers. The source disk was a commercial Blu-Ray. The
overall experience was close to that of a modern film theater and looked
as good as, if not better, than a standard projected film.
What surprised me was that the film actually had letterboxing on some
scenes. Other scenes, mainly action, filled the whole 16:9 area but
dialog and other scenes were letterboxed (black on top and bottom) with
perhaps a 21:9 or so ratio.
So how would a 21:9 deal with a Blu-Ray that is authored in this way?
