Television (TAT.OL), a leading provider of=20
professional video compression and TV delivery=20
systems, today announced that it has received an=20
order, valued in excess of $9M, from a leading=20
North American satellite broadcaster. The=20
contract is the world's first order to be=20
announced for an MPEG-4 AVC HDTV video headend=20
and will see TANDBERG Television deploy its=20
EN5990 encoder within fully redundant systems=20
complete with its Reflex(TM) statistical=20
multiplexing software. First to market with=20
MPEG-4 AVC HD compression systems, TANDBERG=20
Television has developed the EN5990 to enable=20
broadcasters and operators to respond to the=20
dramatically increased consumer demand for more=20
HDTV programming. By using the power, flexibility=20
and bandwidth efficiency of MPEG-4 AVC the=20
bandwidth required for the real-time delivery of=20
outstanding High Definition images can be halved=20
compared to traditional MPEG-2 solutions. The=20
majority of these systems will be delivered in=20
the first half of 2005.
