[opendtv] Re: PBS National Datacast

Disney is using NTSC for data delivery. Whatever company or technology
is used in the middle is irrelevant. They do this in the presence of a
digital modulation, 8-VSB, that they are not using. And there is a
deadline past which they cannot use their analog NTSC.

My point is that a major company is willing to start a venture that has
a drop dead date and is no where near state of the art. They would not
be doing this if DVB-T, DVB-H, ISDB-T or any other digital modulation
were allowed on this spectrum.

If any of these modulations were available Disney would have a choice of
companies to use to deliver their content. In fact by now more than one
company would be delivering Disney content in this fashion IMO. They
would not even bother with such a venture as MovieBeam.

Something else as part of the puzzle? Contractual agreements that force
Disney to proceed? Maybe but none of these would have even existed if a
better modulation had been adopted. Disney would not have been involved.
There would have been no need IMO.
