And, it's not the licenses per se, it's how the payer implements security.
Obviously you have not been listening to the folks who make DVDs for a living.
This is from a recent post from the Tully DVD list:
I can tell you firsthand that the fees are killing BluRay for almost
all of my clients. The producers that I work with, mainly small run
sports programs, all shoot on HD and love the look of it. They want
to get their movies out on HD, are even willing to sit on extra
unsold copies of BluRay until the market demand is there, but when
they realize that they're on the hook for that initial $3,000 then
$1,500 they all decide to go with iTunes or some other HD download
over the net. They make less per sale, the movies don't look as
good, but at least they get out there in HD and don't get hit with
thousands in upfront costs.
How players implement security is not a big issue. The cost to use
AASC IS the big issue. The cost for keys, licenses etc., is many
thousands of dollars per title. This is not a big deal for the
conglomerates who are releasing movie titles, but is effectively
preventing Blu-Ray from being used by independent producers and for
non movie titles.

Craig
