Prinyar,

The Freeview system grew out of the onDigital system, and as such the
specifications of the STBs was in the control of the onDigital people. Part
of the onDigital system was the built in ability to update the box software
over the air. This is the same type of closed system as I was describing
for USDTV, DirecTV, and Dish Network here.

Am I mistaken in believing that Freeview does not distribute OTA software
updates to all brands of STBs in the UK, or do all freeview boxes sold
comply to a common software standard?

Regards,

John Shutt

fyi

In the UK over the air updates for STB's are now routine in the freeview
system

One of the functions of the DTG test bed/centre is to ensure that over the
air
updates do not interfere with STB's from other manufacturers.
