CUMULATIVE SALES TOP 11.7 MILLION UNITS
One Out of Every Four Sets Sold In 2004 Will Be An HDTV

Arlington, Va., August 25, 2004 - Manufacturer-to-dealer sales of =
digital
television (DTV) products continued to soar during the first half of =
2004,
reaching 2.8 million units and dollar revenues of more than $2.7 =
billion,
according to figures released today by the Consumer Electronics =
Association
(CEA).

"DTV sales have now reached a total of 11.7 million units since market
introduction in 1998 and most of those sales have occurred during the =
past two
years," said Sean Wargo, senior industry analyst for CEA. "With high =
definition
(HDTV) products constituting the vast majority of total sales, these =
figures
show how quickly consumers are responding to the continued increase in =
the
amount of quality HDTV programming, such as the Summer Olympics. In =
fact, 1 out
of 4 televisions purchased this year will be an HDTV."

CEA also reported that DTV sales during the first half of 2004 are up 80 =
percent
compared to 1.5 million units sold in the same time period last year. =
CEA
defines DTV products as integrated sets and monitors displaying active =
vertical
scanning lines of at least 480p and, in the case of integrated sets, =
receiving
and decoding Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial =
digital
broadcasts.

Data cited in this release is available for purchase through CEA's =
Market
Activity Reports and Analysis (MARA) program. With more than 500 reports
published annually, the MARA program is recognized as the "authoritative =
source"
for data on the consumer electronics industry. For a list of available =
reports
and purchasing information, visit www.eBrain.org/mara or send an e-mail =
