Which is about the same length of time that we've been accurately measuring
such.  It's called "measurement bias."

We did start flying into hurricanes during the IGY (international
geophysical year) in 1958 or so, but the radiosondes weren't very good until
the mid-1970s.

hurricanes has increased by about 50% over the last thirty some years.
