And presumably the time spent picking a program to watch together will 
be short, so it's really a non-issue in your example. Mom or Dad 
generally get control of the remote, so it would use their interface. I 
doubt the rest of the family couldn't deal with this.

Look down at the pad. Hit a button. Look up and the big screen. Did it 
take? Okay, back down to the pad. Back and forth, back and forth.

Since it's only practical for one user at a time to be interacting with 
the big screen, why complicate it with multiple "pads" to interface 
with? What if more than one person wants to have control over the 
screen? Which pad gets priority?
