That would depend on a much more expensive infrastructure than AM/FM/HD radio, 
however. Also, how do those rates quoted by the NAB compare with what OTA radio 
stations pay?
 
I've been predicting that as satellite radio needs to demonstrate to their 
shareholders this constant "growth" that business is shackled by, they will 
have no choice but to add in commercials. As they have been doing, in fact.
 
Clearly, new subscriptions have, and will continue to, stabilize and eventually 
stop. So the only two choices are (1) increase the subscription fee, and (2) 
add other sources of revenue. Of which, ads are an obvious candidate.
 
Just as in cable TV, you'll get to a point where the only real difference 
between satellite and OTA radio is the amount of choice. And yes, nationwide 
coverage.
