Interesting if true. However, one needs to note that this is a news
report based on a an ex-parte filing (required by the Sunshine Act)
of a Philips meeting with a single Commissioner. Philips is
required to report it.
It's the first time I can ever remember a news item about an ex-parte filing.
It is not them 1)actually proving it or even 2)showing the device to
the Commission and most importantly 3) letting the Commission
testing the device.
There were several such demonstrations of the Grand Alliance system
for the FCC during the process of developing the US DTV system. The
Commission NEVER tested it until they got involved in the 8-VSB vs
COFDM debate - after Sinclair petitioned the FCC to allow
broadcasters to choose. During the actual development and selection
process the FCC relied upon the testing by the Advanced Television
Testing Lab and the Canadians.
And there were many press releases surrounding these demo events.
That being said, many homes are already moving HD signals around via WiFi.
