It probably is not the telecine. It MAY have something to do with the actual frequency content of the stuff captured by the cinematographer. The Hollywood types avoid capturing scenes with high levels of detail, but they love to digitize everything that is on the celluloid - they seem to think that there is some kind of magic in being able to see every detail in the film grain.
