Regular DVD, with its 10 Mb/s peak bandwidth, is plenty good
enough for the time being, on a good deinterlacing display, IMO.
Regular DVD upconverted to 1080i or 1080p looks astoundingly good. Not quite
the same level of resolution as true 1080p source material or 1080i broadcast,
but not that far off. Most consumers aren't even aware of the benefits of HD
DVD or Blu-ray and couldn't care less. Like standard CD, regular DVD will be
with us for a very long time.
