I can say that I've been correct in my initial predictions for DCC.  

On the one hand, it's a chicken/egg problem between receivers and broadcast
of directed ads.  On the other hand, there's no economic incentive to (free
market) receiver manufacturers (happy for there to be an incentive, please
send a check to my employer.  No?  Well, there ya go).  On the third (?)
hand, captive receivers (cable, satellite) will support their 'own' way
(whatever that is, assuming this idea has an economic incentive for them)
which will (likely) not interoperate...

.... leading me to my primary prediction from perhaps a decade ago: The
chances of this being adopted are low.  The only way to make the chances
LOWER is for there to be more than one network (receiver?) standard for it.
