It seems to me, Craig, that we saw something similar to this years ago. The 
idea of modulating the backlight to achieve blacker blacks. Although it was not 
limited to just the black bars, as I recall, but rather blacker blacks 
throughout the image.

Didn't Jeroen describe this?

A potential problem with that approach was, the old flicker problem could 
re-emerge. Maybe if they just worry about the black bars, this wouldn't be an 
issue.

Not sure how Apple could compete in the tight margin TV market. Then again, a 
lot of people paid premium prices just to have the Sony label on their TVs. 
Heaven only knows that sort of cult following works for Apple, eh?
