oops. Her new set is 32", and the Sony was 28". When watching 4:3
pictures, her picture is now within 1/2" of the size of the 4:3
screen on the Sony (thanks to my doing the math.)
He can't do math either...
a 28" display with 4 x 3 aspect ratio:
Screen height = 16.85"
Screen width = 22.467
Screen Diagonal - square root of (16.85 x 16.85) + (22.467 x 22.467) = 28.08"
A 32" display with a 16:9 aspect ratio:
Screen height = 15.7"
Screen Width = 27.91"
16:9 Screen Diagonal - square root of (15.7 x 15.7) + (27.91 x
27.91) = 32.02"
Height of 4:3 picture = 15.7"
Width of 4:3 picture = 20.93"
4:3 screen diagonal - square root of (15.7 x 15.7) + (20.93 x 20.93) = 26.16"
4:3 picture dimensions for these two displays:
4:3 diagonals - 28.08" - 26.16" = 1.92" smaller
4:3 picture heights 16.85" - 15.7" = 1.15" smaller
Any way you look at it, the new 4:3 picture is smaller by
significantly more than .5"
