[opendtv] Re: Multicast must-carry

So, broadcasters will pay 6x the program cost for 1x the amount of viewers?

There are many arguments for and against this, but this one starts off with
defying economic sense.

And, need I point out that you can ONLY get live HDTV from ota sources; it's
not broadcasters that have a business model based on decimating HDTV.

P.S. I do think we can agree on the likely outcome. Maybe broadcasters
need "Al Sharpton" on their side on this one.

Another wish from the Mediocracy. If multichannel must-carry is enforced,
you can kiss HDTV quality goodbye as locals will try to cram as many
programs into their 19.3 mbps multiplex as viewers can barely tolerate.
Remember what happened to DBS and digital cable: they spiraled down from 4
mbps starting in 1994 (near average DVD quality) to 1.5 mbps today ---
looking worse than VHS.

Yeah, we really need more channels. That's what the world is missing.

What's next? Encrypted must-carry? Why not. Entitlements-R-US.

I guess you aren't a cable subscriber. It would cost somebody, guess who.
It's a stupid idea.

Thankfully is has no chance of ever happening.
