Pardon me for being pedantic, but "pedantic" in your riposte is misplaced --
it's not about words, but figures.  He said "16x9" to his eye, but it's
16x10 to my measurement.

Math "tends" to be more accurate than words.

And, the reason I've measured it was that they didn't look to be 16x9 "to my
eye."

I suspect he meant that the majority of laptops have "widescreen"  
displays. I think we all knew what his point was, and there was no  
need to be pedantic.
