That's why I started this thread saying that it was perhaps a combination of what broadcasters were doing, and the fact that CE vendors allowed them that control that they should not have, that was creating the problem. My suggestions for how a PVR should be programmed were intended to make the system more fool-proof. You know, sort of like locking your car. No one is allowed to steal stuff from your car, or steal the car itself. That does NOT mean that car manufacturers don't need to install locks, however. They should, definitely. (Oh, by the way, you aren't suggesting above that you think Macrovision copy protection is substantially different from CGMS or the so-called broadcast flag, are you? I mean, as far as the various court decisions go.)
