Ms has been trumpeting 7.1 and 9.1 for some years, in windows media.  

Takes more than just an ear -- headphones or speakers.

I have never heard 7.1 audio (or more).  Has anyone heard any 
improvement over 5.1 channels?  From any source?

My musical ear isn't really that good anyway, but I'm curious.
