Many months ago the N. American LG Marketing Manager advised me that they
had no plan to produce a 5th Gen based STB; a fact that I reported to this
forum.

Does this box really use the 5th generation chip? I got an email from LG
Cust Service last March, in response to a query, that stated all their STBs
use the 4th gen chip. There was no mention of plans to offer the 5th gen
chip in STBs in the future
