In Hub, TV fans having it their way

By Johnny Diaz, Globe Staff | August 18, 2010

More Boston television viewers are using digital video recorders and
other technologies that allow them to view their favorite programs
whenever they want to, according to a study released yesterday by the
nation's largest cable provider.

Comcast Corp.'s "TV Pulse Survey'' found that 70 percent of Boston
viewers use time-shifting devices to watch primetime shows, compared
with 62 percent of consumers nationally who watch such shows through
services such as DVRs, video-on-demand, and the Internet. Boston's
usage is one of the highest in the nation, behind only Houston and
Seattle (72 percent each) and Salt Lake City and Chicago (71 percent
each).

The survey, which was conducted by the independent firm International
Communications Research, was based on responses from 1,000 people
nationally, including 150 in Boston. Philadelphia-based Comcast has
23.2 million subscribers nationwide, and 1.8 million in Boston.
