I have been noticing a trend over the last few years. We seem to have
the yearly video compression debate, the bi-yearly COFDM vs. ATSC
debate, and so forth. Have we ever reached a conclusion on any of these?
Or is that not the point? :-)
Back on the topic -
XML was around in 1995 - rather SGML was, XML's big brother.
This page has a pretty neat timeline that also details metadata advances
over the years, interspersed with platform delivery timelines to give
relevance. It misses a few things, like the fact that linux was around
before version 1.0 (I think I started using it on v0.96 which was..
March 1992?)
