The names and descriptions for the various types of sources, at least the
last time I looked into the matter. These may be distributed in various
formats, using a variety of image and compression formats, like vcd, dvd, or
divx/avi file. Listed in increasing quality/time order. The OP was clearly
talking of a cam release.

'Cam' Shot with camcorder from screen
'TS' Telesync a cam version with audio taken from the cinema's
audiodistribution system usually in place the help the hard-of hearing.
'TC' Telecine a copy made by scanning/capturing the film copy(print) used in
a cinema.
'Screener' a copy of a review copy
'DVD' (pre-)retail dvd.

BTW, John, downloading and henceforth possessing/owning a downloaded
copyrighted work is still perfectly legal in many parts of the world,
distributing and or uploading is a completely different matter.

John is right about the term, but misses the fact that the definition
has evolved in popular usage to include poor quality versions made
available for downloading. Downloaders may be using the term
incorrectly, but they're still using it and the incorrect use is
growing in popularity. There's even more confusion because some
people seem to use the term to describe videos acquired by shooting a
film in the theater with a camcorder, off the screen, which leads to
the term "screener."

If only these pirates would get organized and get their terms
straight...
