[opendtv] Re: HDTV-compatible PC display interface emerges

Homeplug Powerline Alliance seems to be leading the pack:

HPLA (aka Broadband PowerLine or BPL) has several important advantages:
1) Large number of alliance members and manufacturers, including Cisco (and 
hence now also Scientific Atlanta), Comcast, Earthlink, GE Security, Intel, 
Motorola, Radio Shack, Sharp, Sony, et. al.:

2) Large installed base both in US and worldwide of low speed products
3) HOME AV high speed standard for multiple SD/HD streams ratified in August, 
with silicon soon to follow.  Includes DRM.
4) Command/Control Spec is in development to standardize how various household 
appliances (HDTV, STB, RCVR, Refrigerator, A/C System, Cellphone???) all talk 
to each other.
5) Uses EXISTING power cords to interconnect ALL appliances, not just those 
connected to cable coax.
6) No screwey WiFi antenna stubbies poking out of each and every interconnected 
component.....or WiFi coverage problems.
7) Uses OFDM modulation.....just to throw Bob a bone....

Hopefully this will eliminate the complex house wiring required to distribute 
OTA TV, CATV, SAT, IPTV systems to multiple rooms in the house, as well as from 
the HD-PVR "Hub" to individual display systems.
