Bert,
Honestly, I have no idea what the real problem is, but unless someone else
comes on this list and says "yes, it is being done," I can't believe that
the true, actual, real Macrovision (TM) encoded video is being broadcast.
The Macrovision system plays tricks with the vertical interval sync pulses,
which would also play havoc with most transmitter exciters to the point of
not functioning. It certainly would mess up a Klystron transmitter's pulser
circuit.
Maybe there is some sort of copy protect flag included in the closed
captioning data standard, but I do not know of any for the U.S. I will
admit ignorance on this subject and defer to more knowledgeable opinions.
I'd sure like to see the demodulated NTSC baseband video during your problem
programs. Saying you have a problem with your PVR is one thing, but saying
that a true Macrovision encoded video program is being transmitted is almost
impossible to believe. The real test would be to simultaneously record the
offending program with a VCR. If Macrovision is to blame, it too would blow
the recording (that is what Macrovision is for, after all.)
