The price and resolution seem impressive enough, but the contrast ratio and size do not. At least, not for a TV application. Hard to get wow TV pictures with just 1000:1 contrast ratio, from what I've seen in stores, and 30" is small these days. As a computer monitor, size and contrast ratio may be more than adequate. Don't know. "Extreme HD" 1600p display Gateway's XHD3000 is world's first "Quad HD" 1600p display By Dennis P. Barker Gateway, Inc. has introduced the new Gateway XHD3000 30-inch Extreme HD Display, the world's first "Quad-HD" display, delivering more than four times the resolution of standard 720p high definition along with advanced display technology. As a result, it's ideal for consumers who want a truly remarkable, cinema-quality viewing experience. The new Gateway XHD3000 features state-of-the-art technology that makes it uniquely suited for both entertainment and computing, such as viewing and editing HD video, playing online, PC and console games, as well as running creative PC applications like Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk Autocad and Corel Painter. It features a stunning 2560x1600 widescreen ultra-high resolution and uses the Silicon Optix Realta HQV video processor for incredibly detailed images. In addition, the display's advanced upconversion makes standard-definition video look high-definition, and will even upscale 1080p high-definition video to an astonishing 1600p. While the XHD3000 display takes images to an all-new level of detail and clarity, it also provides world-class usability. Unlike other 30-inch displays available today, it can be easily connected to the many computer and entertainment devices consumers enjoy via its range of inputs including HDMI, single-link/dual-link DVI-D, VGA, component, s-video and composite interfaces. It is the only ultra-high resolution display which can be directly connected to virtually any laptop PC, any desktop PC, or any consumer electronics video device. According to Gary Elsasser, senior vice president of products, Gateway, "The Gateway XHD3000 takes a dramatic step forward in expanding Gateway's award winning line of HD displays and raising the bar for display technology. Its combination of leading-edge technology and usability features makes it the most advanced and versatile display on the market, and the only display available that is truly equipped to handle any PC or CE video device." Gateway XHD3000 Powered by Industry-Leading Technology The Gateway XHD3000 uniquely combines leading-edge technology for an unparalleled viewing experience. It is powered by the Silicon Optix Realta HQV "Hollywood Quality Video" video processing chipset, which delivers amazing 1600p HD video for optimal clarity, smoothness and accuracy. The video processor performs one trillion operations per second for enhanced image quality and offers advanced capabilities, such as deinterlacing, film cadence detection, noise reduction, and detail enhancement. The HQV video processor boosts the display to provide a visually intense PC gaming experience, as customers can set their graphics card for the optimal balance of resolution and frames per second to avoid skipped frames or screen stutter. Further enhancing image quality, the XHD3000 provides incredible video scaling performance to deliver a stunning full-screen experience. With its 1600p support and 2560x1600 wide screen ultra-high resolution, the Gateway XHD3000 lets customers see remarkably clear detail in both high-definition video and PC applications. The ultra-high resolution also enhances productivity, as it allows customers to view multiple applications and web pages at the same time. Professionals in a wide range of industries can use it to view life-like images, important details and large amounts of data. Retail environments can use the display for signage and kiosk purposes due to its extended viewing angle, brightness and broad selection of video inputs. Additional features contribute to the display's crisp, vibrant visuals, including the 1000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness and fast 6ms refresh rate. The premium viewing experience is further enhanced with an ultra-wide viewing angle of 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically. HDMI and multiple A/V inputs, Support for Six Simultaneous Devices PC and video enthusiasts who want a premium viewing experience can use the Gateway XHD3000 as a single high-end display to work with multiple input devices, such as a PC, TV, game console, set-top box, and DVD-player. It supports up to six simultaneous video inputs, such as desktop and notebook computers, Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Blu-Ray, TiVo, DirecTV, HD DVD and more. In addition to an HDMI interface, it has single and dual-link DVI, component, S-video, composite and VGA connections. The new XHD3000 comes with a new four-device universal IR remote control that can be used to access not only the display, but also three additional devices, such as a Media Center PC, cable or satellite set-top box and DVD player. The included IR Blaster cable allows for remote transmission of IR controls directly from the XHD3000 via the universal remote as well as from other devices' remote controls to AV equipment behind cabinets. Key Features In addition to viewing content, the new ultra-high resolution XHD3000 will assist customers when editing their digital video and photography, since they'll be able to view and edit their images at over four megapixel resolution for the ultimate detail and quality. Then, after digital images are perfected, customers can sit back and watch a slideshow on the impressive 30-inch display. The Gateway XHD3000 incorporates many of the features that have been lauded throughout the line of Gateway HD displays. The XHD3000 is the industry's only display that offers High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) support over both single-link and dual-link DVI interfaces, providing maximum investment protection and long-term functionality. The HDCP video content encryption chip is required for viewing high-definition content from cable and satellite high-definition video services or from a PC running Microsoft Windows Vista. High-definition picture-in-picture (PIP) functionality allows users to work on computer applications while simultaneously viewing programming from cable, satellite or other video sources at full HD resolutions. The EzTune software allows users to adjust the PIP images to various sizes, locations and levels of transparency. Plus, a simple roll-over of the mouse turns the smaller PIP screen invisible to let viewers see and interact with the screen behind it. High-Fidelity Audio Complements Video To further boost the entertainment experience, the XHD3000's high-performance DXP powered speaker system delivers incredibly rich, detailed sound using eight high-powered, low-profile neodymium transducers that contribute to the system's ability to generate amazingly clean and high-volume sound with exceptional dynamic range. As a result, customers will get superb sound fidelity that perfectly complements the system's exceptional video. The Gateway XHD3000 includes discrete audio inputs for each video input and allows for automatic audio switching. If a more expansive audio experience is required, the XHD3000 has separate analog and digital audio outputs for connection to home theater systems using the display as a high bandwidth audio and video switchbox. In addition, the display has dual headphone inputs, so it can be used in a classroom or training environment to support a multi-user audio experience. Sleek Design Boosts Usability The all-new premium industrial design is stylish while enhancing usability. The Gateway XHD3000 features a sleek and stylish look that matches the world-class images it displays. The display's high-gloss polished bezel and brushed aluminum accent bar give it a unique visual appeal. Enhanced usability is delivered with the display's built-in, self-powered six-port USB 2.0 hub, which makes it is easy and convenient to plug in a digital camera, MP3 player, keyboard, mouse or USB flash drive. In addition, its EzTouch(TM) bezel features stylish back-lit buttons that remain effectively invisible until needed. The touch-sensitive controls provide access to on-screen menus for tuning the brightness, contrast and other features of the display. Functioning similarly to an ATM machine, the buttons light up as needed to guide the user through the display's on-screen context sensitive menu, helping customers easily configure the display to get the look they want. The Gateway XHD3000 was designed with security in mind. It incorporates EzTune software, which has an anti-theft mechanism that allows customers to protect the display by setting it to function only with a specified PC, disabling the full functionality if removed. In addition, the display comes with a lock slot, so it can be physically anchored to a desk or other large object and can be wall mounted with the included VESA mounting plate.
