Exactly. The only transparent way to change formats on the fly is to 
open up a new PID, before the old one expires, and use a second 
decoder in the receiver to start up the decoding process; the display 
processor can then either switch or transition between 
streams/decoders, depending on it's inter-format conversion 
capabilities.
