Well, that's way overstated, Richard. I'll bet you that the vast majority of Obama's exposure to the voters was via TV broadcasts from the major networks. Not delivered OTA, probably not, but nevertheless it was exposure from NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox.

Just because the news media hyped up how he also used social networking media doesn't change anything. Had Obama not looked good and sounded articulate *on TV*, for sure he would have lost.

Just because the currently favored forms of TV distribution are gradually being replaced, does not mean that TV is, or will become irrelevant. The teleprompter is not going away, nor are the politicians. Obama used ALL forms of media to create his "hope and change" persona. And the public willingly drank the kool-aid.

Funny how things work out. Jimmy Carter is said to be the first successful Presidential candidate to be created by Madison Avenue. I lived in Georgia at the time and was bewildered by the ways in which his national presidential persona was created by the mass media. One of the biggest misrepresentations was that he cut government employment in Georgia; in reality he eliminated a large number of State jobs, but replace them with slightly fewer higher paid government employees. The net was a huge increase in State payrolls. We are now starting to see the effects of this across the country as government employees at all levels are retiring with unsustainable pensions.

Never in my wildest dreams as a teenager, would I have believed that the American public would see the fall of the Soviet Union, only to become victims to the most powerful propaganda machine ever created by the political class. Sadly, I spent much of my life helping the broadcast industry create it.

Craig
