The real replacement for DAB would be DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale, not Digital Rights Management): http://www.drm.org/ Dermot will love this quote: "The robustness of the DRM signal can be chosen to match different propagation conditions." DRM was designed to replace AM radio, especially the long- distance short-wave radio, where fading due to multipath reception is an annoying problem. One former colleague, who used to work on DAB, has now moved to another company to work on DRM. Who knows, this may finally be the radio that works well everywhere.
