And this in spite of the fact that they get roughly the same number of channels most OTA markets in the US have. Bert ------------------------------------------ http://www.dtg.org.uk/news/news.php?class=countries&subclass=0&id=2490 Demand for free DTV rising in Australia Retailers and television installers took delivery of 247,000 digital TV receivers in the first quarter of 2007, taking the total sold to nearly 2.55m, according to Digital Broadcasting Australia (DBA), the not-for-profit industry group promoting free-to-view digital broadcasting. DBA said figures included the sales of set top boxes, digital TV recorders and integrated digital television sets. The average monthly sales volume of digital television receivers to retailers and installers during Q1 was 82,600 per month. "This average compares to a monthly average of 71,420 units for the corresponding quarter during 2006," said DBA. "Strong retail demand for LCD and plasma televisions equipped with integrated digital tuners continued driven by consumer uptake of newer flat panel televisions with reported sales of integrated digital televisions representing 61% of all digital television receivers sold to Australian retailers and installers. "This continued to drive the growth of high-definition digital television with high definition digital television receivers accounting for the majority of all sales to Australian retailers and installers for the second quarter in a row. As a result, HD receivers are now estimated to account for 39% of all digital television receivers present in Australian homes." Based on the cumulative sales figures DBA estimates take-up of free-to-view digital television has reached an estimated 2.2m homes, 28% of Australia's total of 7.8m.
