I shall be even more surprised if by the end of 2009 my cheesebox has any mobile bits to find.
I've seen Gary Sgrignoli's 8-VSB demos (back when he was working for Zenith) that demonstrated that as of the date of the demo (2005) that all Zenith ATSC receivers were also capable of receiving 4-VSB and 2-VSB.
I wouldn't be surprised if the LG tuner chip in my cheesebox has the Samsung-LG mobile reception mode buried somewhere inside of it. I wish they put in a full program guide instead.

I probably shouldn't say this, but I think you might be suprised to find out that in early 2009 your cheesebox is capable of mobile reception, just incapable of finding and processing the mobile bits.
