Yup, I know about CCDs with mechanical shutters. Our studio is equipped with three BTS/Thomson/Philips/Grass Valley/Orphan LDK-9s and an LDK-91.

CCDs transfer charge in different ways. Frame-transfer chips transfer through the photosensitive area, requiring a mechanical shutter to prevent exposure during transfer.
