By choosing different curves, it will make a difference on the final ability of the observer to distinguish between two given light levels. If a different exponent allows to differentiate between two light levels that would have been visually too close using the other correction curve, wouldn't you say that it amount to a greater perceived contrast, even if is only perceptual, and not directly related to the physical one?
