At first blush it just seemed another story of the mis-use of the patent system. But it may also be they just prefer the available insurance terms for some reason.

Seems a little kooky, since the method would be practiced at least in part
outside the United States and its territories.  In my opinion Boeing might
find it hard to establish jurisdiction for any patent suit.
