John, to rehash, the first positive test results for 8-VSB occurred way back in 2000, in Hong Kong. That FCC report was published April 2001. In April of 2002, the CRC tested the Linx receiver prototype. In March of 2003, Linx tested an integrated version of their receiver in Chicago. In September of 2003, the CRC published test results of a comparison test between COFDM and 8-VSB, including use of on-channel repeaters, in the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting (Vol 49 No. 3). Brief reports on the LG 5th gen appeared sometime in early 2004, IIRC. So what that report said was proving true shortly after it was written. After the FCC decision of 2002, I focused on what was happening with 8-VSB, rather than keep moaning about comparison tests dating back to 1999. If very good receivers haven't been on store shelves for the past 6 months or more, it's not because the technology doesn't exist. Better channel your frustrations where they might do some good. We're not going to DVB-T over here.
