Well, it seems you have a semblance of understanding of my problem, even if by a somewhat contorted route. Perhaps it was the way I put it. Yes, timely conversions is it! But note I do not complain about recent theatre releases, here or over there. Merely old (20 year old typically) movies. I think the staggered release of this material is without justification. I do accept that some old material is released fairly promptly, i.e. simultaneously in all regions, although this is rare. Regarding the PAL/NTSC issue, I am willing to accept that there may not be the difference I imagine between the 2 in reality. The problem for me is only having experienced the issue from one point of reference. I shall have to change that and take a wee holiday in the US of A. I guess my 'issue' was that at first, you railed against the region coding=20 scheme. Then, when it was pointed out that you can readily purchase a code-free=20 player, you railed against NTSC versus PAL. So at the end of the day, it's not=20 the region coding system that has your feathers ruffled, but rather the lack of=20 timely PAL conversions. These are very different issues. Your problem would=20 not be solved by simply scrapping the region coding system. As for your experience with region free DVD players, the unit you purchased may=20 not have had the ability to convert NTSC->PAL, or the setting that controls the=20 output was not correct. Region free players that convert to either PAL or NTSC=20 are readily (more or less) available. ----- Original Message -----=20 From: "Barry Wilkins" <Barry.Wilkins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > > I do feel I must have ruffled your feathers somewhat John.
