This discussion has taken a rather humorous turn, what with the phallic
overtones. Ours is longer than theirs! By golly.

The fundamental point was that the supposed big sticks in this country
are essentially identical to the sticks used in Europe, with the
exception of transmitter ERP, which is often (not always) higher here.

I went to

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/video/tvq.html

and entered a 200 Km radius from Alex, VA. Scroll up and own, and you'll
see that the very vast majority of HAAT figures lie in the 200 and up to
the mid-300 meter range. There are the odd 400 m and greater, but they
are the exception. There are more examples of towers in the 100 meter
range, for instance, than towers taller than 400 m.

So unless all the big stick talk does not apply to the East Coast, I'd
say we're in the same order of magnitude easily, US and Europe.

RAI does make use of mountain peaks quite a lot, because the geography
allows this. So they can get some impressive HAAT figures, but always at
10s of KW ERP only.
