The reason 16:9 matters, of course, is that no self-respecting videophile of the near future would be caught dead inviting friends over to see a 4:3 display. This is becoming, if nothing else, a fashion statement. Since thin screen sets do not incur a cost premium to be built in wide aspect ratio, and HDTV is wide screen, and DVDs are in the vast majority wide screen too, that's the wave of the future.
