[opendtv] Re: BBC Demonstrates HDTV Broadcasts over SD Channels

Hey, I have not "adopted" the darn things either. That would be like
feeding a stray cat and becoming responsible for it. ;-)

But I was pointing out they exist. Even more I was pointing out there
is not really any *technology limitation* with putting competitive
looking HD movies on red laser DVD-9's, using either AVC or VC1. Except
for the usual DRM arguments and hindrances a $250 machine like my
LinkPlayer could handle them just fine if all the various interested
parties wanted that.

More disc space like on the various blue formats is useful. But that is
not at all what is holding up the release of some sort of HxDVD's. The
blessing of the studios, CE manufacturer bickering, and some reasonable
compromises on copy protection are what is delaying that roll out.

I'm betting a year from now we will still be having this discussion.
