First of all, CO2 is not pollution. It is at the very core of all
living organisms.

Never said it was. Oxygen is at the core of many living things and if
there was too much of it it would be bad. A very dangerous bad. Too
much CO2 from whatever source could be bad.

There is evidence that CO2 levels in the atmosphere effect climate
going back over millions of years.

Second it is not clear that the current level of CO2 in the
atmosphere is causing ANY problems. There is more scientific
evidence supporting increased levels of water vapor as the major
influence on climate change.

If the average temperature increases the level of water vapor in the
atmosphere will increase. Yes water vapor is part of the system. I
believe the vast amount of data being collected by thousands of
scientist and analyzed by even more includes that fact in their
analysis.

The question then becomes WHAT is the reason for recent increases in
average temperature and why do a large percentage of scientist who
work in this field believe that we will see from a 1.5 to 5 degree
increase in this century? They say we are part of the problem. I think
I will go with them.

But it doesn't matter where the CO2 is coming from. ALL that matters
is whether it is a problem, how big and what can we do about it. Even
if our best minds concluded that water vapor was the culprit and
reducing, eliminating or even sequestering MORE CO2 than we produce
was the answer or one of several answers then maybe we should get on
with it.

That higher levels of CO2 are responsible for climate change is
simply a matter of conjecture among the politically motivated types
who would like to establish a global system for trading CO2 credits.
These credits are the basis for taxing developed countries by
allowing developing nations to sell CO2 credits. In other words,
global socialism.

I disagree. I have been watching some of the testimony by these
"types" you mention and they seem to be the LEAST politically
motivated "types" in the room.

What I was talking about is REAL pollution - i.e. toxic wastes and
unbreathable air.

And you don't think the US is at or even near the top of this heap?
The US probably exports more toxic waste to poor "less fortunate"
countries. Most of the worlds trade is between developed countries but
the ships that we conveniently disown that do this shipping pollute
the oceans and are dismantled on the beaches of Bangladesh with lots
of associated pollution. Our computers are exported for dismantling in
other countries.

In other words we only recently became sensitive to our vast
pollution, are exporting a lot of it and turn our gaze away. I would
suggest that morally ALL the goods we consume and the associated toxic
waste and "unbreathable air" they create no matter where it occurs is
on us. Exporting it does not exonerate us. All we have to do is
legistlate the conditions under which anything imported by the US is
made, regulate the vessels that carry the cargo that is off loaded on
our shores etc.

And long term in our own self interest, because this world is a single
unit, we will have to take action to make sure that we can survive if
others act in ways that threaten our survival. We do it now for oil,
we will do it for such things as CO2 if we are convinced it is a
threat.

We should do it, we must do it and we will do what it takes IMO.
