Me, before I conclude freezes and drops are the result of RF issues, I make
sure that bit starvation and encoder settings aren't an issue. I actually
capture transport streams and analyze the packets, and use my tools and
others in real-time.
The other day, in my apartment, using a MDP-100 MyHd card and a 4" inch
antenna, I could get a solid signal from KFMB-DT. When I hooked the
receiver up to a 2-bay panel reflector mounted atop my apartment building, I
got no signal from KFMB-DT. I'm 21 or so miles from the KFMB-DT tx site,
and neither location has line-of-site. I can't get a signal from the tx
site "just across the street" with the same power and HAAT, but it's on
channel 25, when KFMB-DT is on channel 55.
At some point, I'll put one or more 3dB pads into the line to lover the
signal level so that I can receive KFMB-DT on this old set. But before I do
that, I have to test the same setups with the new Diamond vision 5th
generation gongle.
Somehow, I don't plan to jiggle antennae between channels .

I was speaking metaphorically - you can not rely on the service if you are
REALLY interested in the show, like during a football game. I tried to
watch the superbowl on my then new 37" integrated LCD panel, but the freezes
and drops made it impossible to watch the game.
It has nothing to do with on-screen motion, it does have a lot to do with
dynamic multipath - 8VSB is just too fragile for the real world of dynamic
multipath. Stephen

"always during touchdowns" sounds linteresting, Stephen.
Do these problems ALWAYS show up during fast-moving content?
Are there stations with fast-moving images that don't freeze up?
Does it happen during broadcasts of soccer (metric football)? :-)
